In a more controlled space, this Botanical Garden displayed the huge variety of cacti that grow in the Sonoran Desert..... our timing was good in that flowers were beginning to show.....

Saguaro National Park - East

This was the earlier of the two parks to be named as a National Park.   The loop road for this side is paved.....Scenery was wonderful.... This appears to be a dead Saguaro.... instead the Ranger said it was the "framework or bones" of the Saguaro cactus....

Saguaro National Park - West

We really didn't realize that the National Park had two distinct portions..... this part is close to the Desert Museum so the scenery is quite similar.   But, as with most National Parks, there was a visitor center and a guided walk to see the ancient petroglyphs.... This side of the park has a gravel road loop that is quite easy to drive.... from it there are pull offs that lead to trail heads for trails of various lengths. We were able to find parking at each pull off since we were there in March.... not sure if that would be true during other times of the year.

After reading suggestions on what to see in Tucson, other than the National Parks.... this was mentioned by many travelers.... we agree.... there's a tram that you can take to the top and then choose how far you'd like to hike by which stop you get off on the way down.   The day we visited the tram had to drive through several areas where the water crossed the pathway.....  The view from the tram as we cross the stream.....
